Ingersoll Rand 39303284 – Scavenge Orifice / Oil-Return Check Valve

The 39303284 Scavenge Orifice is a flow-control component used in Ingersoll Rand rotary screw compressor oil-management systems. It controls the return of separated oil from the air/oil separation system back to the compressor air end while helping prevent excessive or reverse oil flow.

Working Process:
During normal compressor operation, oil is injected into the screw compressor air end for cooling, lubrication, and sealing. After the air and oil mixture leaves the compressor element, the mixture enters the separator system where most of the oil is separated from the compressed air.

A small quantity of residual oil remains in the separated-air circuit. This oil is collected and directed through the scavenge line toward the compressor air end. The 39303284 scavenge orifice provides a controlled restriction in this return path.

The calibrated orifice limits the quantity of oil returning through the scavenge line. This is important because unrestricted oil return could disturb the compressor’s oil balance or allow excessive oil to enter the air end. By controlling the return flow, the component helps maintain the correct oil circulation rate.

The check-valve function associated with the scavenge circuit also helps prevent unwanted reverse flow when pressure conditions change, such as during unloading or compressor shutdown. This helps reduce the possibility of oil migrating in the wrong direction or accumulating in unsuitable areas of the compressor system.

During continuous operation, the component works automatically according to the pressure difference between the separator/scavenge circuit and the compressor air end. The controlled passage allows the separated oil to return while restricting excessive flow.

If the orifice becomes blocked by contamination, oil deposits, or debris, the scavenge flow can be restricted. This may cause oil accumulation in the separator system, increased oil carryover, or reduced compressor efficiency. If the component becomes excessively open or the associated check function fails, excessive oil return or reverse flow may occur.

During maintenance, the scavenge component and associated line should be inspected for blockage, contamination, wear, and correct flow direction. The component should be replaced with the correct specification if damaged or contaminated beyond cleaning limits.

Correct operation of the 39303284 scavenge orifice/check-valve assembly helps maintain proper oil recovery, control oil circulation, reduce oil carryover, and support reliable operation of the rotary screw compressor.
