Ingersoll Rand 35322379 – Blowdown Valve

The Ingersoll Rand 35322379 Blowdown Valve is a pneumatic pressure-release component used in the compressor regulation system. Its primary function is to release or reduce trapped compressed-air pressure from the compressor system when the machine unloads or shuts down.

Working Process:
During normal compressor operation, the compressor produces compressed air and maintains the required operating pressure. The blowdown valve remains in its controlled position so that the compressor can build and maintain the required pressure within the air-end and associated pressure circuits.

When the compressor reaches the required pressure or receives an unload command from the control system, the blowdown valve is actuated. It opens the appropriate pressure-release passage and allows trapped compressed air to escape from the internal compressor circuit.

This controlled depressurization reduces the pressure acting on the compressor air-end and associated components. By removing residual pressure before the compressor stops or restarts, the valve helps prevent the compressor from having to start against excessive internal pressure.

During shutdown, the blowdown valve therefore plays an important role in preparing the compressor for a safe and low-load restart. The reduction of internal pressure decreases starting resistance and helps reduce electrical, mechanical, and drive-system stress.

When the compressor is commanded to load again, the control system changes the pneumatic condition of the valve. The blowdown passage closes, allowing the compressor to build pressure and return to normal compressed-air production.

The valve operates repeatedly during load/unload and shutdown cycles. Reliable opening and closing are important because incomplete blowdown can leave excessive pressure trapped inside the compressor, while a valve that remains open can cause continuous pressure loss and prevent the compressor from maintaining the required operating pressure.

If the 35322379 Blowdown Valve becomes blocked, contaminated, mechanically damaged, or develops internal leakage, the compressor may experience hard starting, slow pressure build-up, excessive air loss, unstable pressure, or incorrect loading/unloading behavior.

During maintenance, the compressor should be shut down, isolated, and depressurized before the blowdown valve is removed. The valve and connected pneumatic lines should be inspected for contamination, damaged seals, restricted passages, and leakage. After installation, the valve should be tested through the compressor’s load, unload, and shutdown sequences to confirm correct operation.

Correct operation of the 35322379 Blowdown Valve helps provide controlled depressurization, smoother compressor unloading, easier restarting, reduced mechanical stress, and reliable compressor performance.
