Atlas Copco 2906096000 – CV–OSV Kit

The Atlas Copco 2906096000 (2906-0960-00) CV–OSV Kit is a service and maintenance kit designed for compatible GA stationary oil-injected screw compressors. The assembly combines an Oil Stop Valve (OSV) and Check Valve (CV) to control oil flow and prevent unwanted reverse flow during compressor operation, unloading, and shutdown.

Working Process:

During normal compressor operation, the screw air end requires a continuous supply of compressor oil for lubrication, cooling, sealing, and reliable compression. Oil circulates through the compressor oil circuit while the screw element compresses the incoming air.

The Oil Stop Valve controls the oil passage to the compressor air end. When the compressor is operating, the pressure conditions in the oil circuit move the valve into its operating position, allowing the required quantity of oil to circulate.

The circulating oil reaches the air end, where it lubricates the rotating screw components, removes heat generated during compression, and helps seal the internal rotor clearances.

The Check Valve C111-C106 provides one-way flow control. It allows oil or associated flow to move in the intended direction while preventing reverse flow when the pressure differential changes.

When the compressor unloads or stops, the operating pressure in the oil circuit decreases. The spring-assisted oil-stop mechanism moves the valve toward the closed position.

The Oil Stop Valve then restricts the oil passage and helps prevent excessive oil from draining or migrating into the compressor air end while the machine is stopped.

At the same time, the check valve prevents unwanted reverse flow through the circuit. This helps maintain the correct pressure and oil-flow conditions during unloading and shutdown.

This combined function is important because uncontrolled oil migration can result in excessive oil accumulation in the air end, difficult starting, increased oil consumption, oil carryover, and abnormal compressor operation.

Atlas Copco’s official catalog identifies 2906096000 as “CV – OSV KIT FOR OIL INJECTED SCREW COMPRESSORS.” It is specified for GA stationary oil-injected compressors, with an official listed weight of 453.592 g.

The official component list includes:

  • Oil Stop Valve – 1 pc
  • Seal Washer M14 – 2 pcs
  • Spring – 1 pc
  • Check Valve C111-C106 – 1 pc
  • Oil Stop Valve Spring – 1 pc
  • Gasket – 1 pc
  • Dowty Seal Washer 1/4 – 1 pc
  • Dowty Seal Washer 1/2+ – 1 pc

These components work together to provide controlled oil flow, one-way flow protection, spring-assisted valve operation, and reliable sealing.

The Oil Stop Valve controls the oil passage during compressor operation and shutdown. The Check Valve prevents reverse flow, while the springs provide the required closing forces.

The O-rings, gaskets, and sealing washers maintain leak-resistant connections and prevent oil or pressure leakage around the valve assembly.

During continuous operation, these components are exposed to hot compressor oil, pressure fluctuations, vibration, temperature variations, and repeated loading/unloading cycles. Over time, valve components and sealing elements can become worn, contaminated, hardened, or damaged.

A defective Oil Stop Valve may fail to close correctly after shutdown. This can allow oil to migrate into the air end, potentially causing excessive oil accumulation, increased oil consumption, oil carryover, difficult starting, or abnormal compressor operation.

A defective Check Valve may permit reverse flow through the oil circuit. This can disturb the intended flow direction and cause unwanted oil or pressure migration.

If the valve becomes restricted or fails to open correctly during operation, oil circulation to the air end may be reduced. Insufficient oil circulation can negatively affect lubrication, cooling, and sealing of the screw element.

Maintenance Procedure:

Before servicing, the compressor must be stopped, electrically isolated, completely depressurized, and allowed to cool.

The existing CV–OSV assembly should be removed according to the applicable Atlas Copco service procedure. The valve, springs, sealing surfaces, gasket, and sealing washers should be inspected for wear, contamination, corrosion, deformation, and leakage.

The worn components should be replaced using the 2906096000 CV–OSV Kit. All sealing washers and gaskets must be installed correctly, without damage or deformation. The Oil Stop Valve, Check Valve, and springs must be installed in their correct positions and orientations.

After reassembly, the compressor should be checked for oil and air leakage. It should then be operated through its start-up, loaded, unloaded, and shutdown sequences.

During testing, the Oil Stop Valve should permit the required oil circulation during operation and close correctly when the compressor unloads or stops. The Check Valve should prevent unwanted reverse flow.

Correct operation of the CV–OSV assembly maintains proper oil circulation during compressor operation while reducing unwanted oil migration during shutdown.

Using the Atlas Copco 2906096000 CV–OSV Kit during scheduled maintenance helps restore oil-flow control, reverse-flow protection, reliable sealing, proper shutdown behavior, and dependable compressor performance.
