Atlas Copco / Chicago Pneumatic Intake Regulator / Inlet Valve Assembly Replacement – 2202-2512-55
Description
Atlas Copco / Chicago Pneumatic 2202-2512-55 – Intake Regulator / Inlet Valve Assembly
The 2202-2512-55 (2202251255) Intake Regulator / Inlet Valve Assembly is an air-intake control component used in oil-injected rotary screw compressors. Its primary function is to regulate the quantity of atmospheric air entering the compressor element according to the compressor’s operating condition and compressed-air demand.
Working Process:
When the compressor starts, the intake regulator keeps the inlet passage in a controlled or restricted position. This reduces the initial compression load and allows the electric motor and compressor element to reach operating speed smoothly.
Once the compressor reaches the required operating condition, the compressor control system actuates the intake regulator. The inlet valve opens and allows atmospheric air to enter the compressor air end. The incoming air is then compressed by the screw element and transferred into the air/oil separation circuit.
During loaded operation, the intake regulator controls the amount of air entering the compressor. When the compressed-air demand increases and system pressure falls, the control system allows the inlet valve to open further. This increases the compressor’s air intake and enables the machine to produce a greater quantity of compressed air.
When the required discharge pressure is reached, the controller initiates the unloading sequence. The intake regulator moves toward the closed or restricted position, reducing the amount of atmospheric air entering the screw element. This reduces the compression load and allows the compressor to continue running in an unloaded condition with lower power consumption.
The regulator therefore provides automatic capacity and load/unload control. It helps the compressor match its air production to the actual demand of the downstream system while maintaining stable operating pressure.
The 2202251255 assembly is associated with the C55 compressor configuration. Atlas Copco’s official listing gives the description “REGOLATORE ASP.15-20HP C55” and a listed weight of 1.11 kg.
During maintenance, the compressor should be stopped, isolated, and completely depressurized before the intake regulator is removed. The valve body, actuator mechanism, seals, springs, and air passages should be inspected for wear, contamination, damage, and leakage.
If the intake valve becomes stuck, damaged, or unable to seal properly, the compressor may experience poor capacity control, excessive air leakage, unstable pressure, failure to unload, increased power consumption, or starting problems.
After installation, the regulator should be checked for smooth movement and correct opening and closing. The compressor should then be tested through its complete start, load, unload, and shutdown cycles.
Correct operation of the 2202-2512-55 Intake Regulator / Inlet Valve Assembly helps maintain controlled airflow, efficient compressor loading, stable pressure regulation, reduced unloaded power consumption, and reliable compressor performance.
